So after taking a 2 week long chill sesh for summer break I'm back at FIEA ready to work!!!
Legit, don't take your summer break for granted. Relax and chill or if you do want to work and do a project, do something you'll really enjoy that's low stress. I came back to school super recharged and ready to work because I did next to nothing during break 10/10 would def recommend
Anyway!!! For this project I'm doing more hand painted stuff! I enjoyed the Reindeer Blacksmith project so much that I want to do another hand painted environment. This time though, I want to focus more on individual props and filling a space with those props.
I knew from the start I wanted to do something involving the theme "poison" and that I wanted my colors to be teal blue/bright green with a pop of raspberry red (don't ask how I thought of this, my brain just really wanted to do those things). I've also been playing some top down RPG's lately (divinity 2) and wanted to do a top down environment thing.
So I decided to get some reference together. I was really inspired by some of the props in WoW Legion specifically these:
I was also super inspired by this room in Diablo 3:
This was my full reference/mood board:
Once I had a rough idea of what I wanted to do for the environment I did a super quick 2 hr blockout to get the space that was in my head in front of me:
I then took those images and brought them into photoshop and did a quick and dirty draw over with some colors slapped on it. I wanted to make sure the colors I wanted to use would actually work well together and I think they do! This also helped me visualize all the stuff I was going to reuse since I want to practice/get better at modular props. This took me 2.5 hrs
Once I got all that done I made a rough schedule and list of props and goals. I really recommend doing this especially if you're super scatter brained like me because it helps get all your thoughts out there. I wanted to list out what I wanted to learn from the project and possible problems and I think that's going to help me organize myself.
It's a super long document so I'm not going to post it here but here's the link if you're interested: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bcR_5rGxeBuUyxvIOzBVcaG0cbd-yzvUYPu02KVrdHY/edit?usp=sharing
