S4 - Random Substance

Had the random urge to make a substance of the floor in the Red Room from Twin Peaks so that's exactly what I did haha

I'm like...99% sure that the next quick thing I'm going to make is just the carpet from the shining so yeah exciting stuff.  Gotta love floors

S4 Personal Project - Cursed Claymore

So hey hi hello

I'm in the venture track kind of just chilling and working on Me Myself and I as well as working with a small group from Cohort 13 that made their own studio (Glass Cat Studios) to make a VR game.

In my free time I'm just doing personal projects and things that I want to do so yeah

I did this week long quick project of making this claymore that I've been wanting to do FOREVER
This was a lot of fun and I'm super glad I was able to finally do it!

This is all hand painted, no sculpted/baked detail, diffuse only, 1k texture map, 900 tris

S3 Personal Project 3 - Midway Check

So for this semester of projects, I'm sort of doing a substance bootcamp for myself.  I really want to get better at Substance Designer and really try and understand the program more, since it seems to be more and more of a necessity for an environment artist.

I've done 2 substance so far: some stylized magma in a handpainted style, and some terracotta tile that is inspired by orb's work on Heroes of the Storm.  I still need to do more work on the tile, mainly with color, to really nail the look he got but considering that the whole substance is procedural, I feel like it's a decent match.

I'm having A LOT of fun doing this project.  I really enjoy messing around with substance and just messing with the program.  It's really interesting how it works and all that you can do with it and I'm excited to dig in and do even more complex materials!!!

S3 Personal Project 2 - Final Turn In

Ayyy what's up reader!  I finished my sweet morphine kit finally.  I'm super proud of how it came out and how I made the materials.  Substance Painter is legit bae I didn't sculpt ANYTHING for this project which was super cool.

Sorry that I don't have a more in depth post on this.  I'm actually writing about this project about 3 months after I turned it in because past me didn't write anything.  Dope.

Anyway enjoy this vintage medical equipment goodness.

S3 Project 2 - Midway Check

So I goofed up and didn't do an initial Week 0 post so my bad but this month I'm doing a 19th century morphine kit!  I was looking at my portfolio and realized that I needed to have at least 1 nice realistic piece in my body of work, so this is it!

I've always been fascinated by oddities and curiosities and find old medical equipment fascinating.  I saw a cool picture of a morphine kit and decided I wanted to recreate it!

I'm currently on schedule with all my hi-poly's baked into my low.  I also started experimenting with textures and texturing it and I really like how it's coming out!

What's left to do, in terms of modeling, is the inside of the syringe with the measuring stick and the fabric on the top of the box.  After that, it's just more tweaking of my bakes and textures!

My current poly count is 5k tris and I want to stay below 6k

S3 - Personal Project Final

After 4 weeks my small little potion/poison lab is completed!  I had a lot of fun doing this project and am pretty proud with how it turned out.  I especially like how my lighting came out and I feel like I have a better understanding of how the heck lights works (which was a goal!)

I also learned some more Substance Designer via this project by making the floor and wall assets via Designer.  The program is so cool but complicated and I'm just excited to learn more of it.

S3 Personal Project 1 - Midway Check

Just posting a small update.  I finished doing all the low poly modeling and high poly sculpting and put it all into UE4.  I started playing with lighting and other effects in the scene.  The rest of the time working on this is just painting and rendering and adjusting the lighting to not look like butt.

Here are some WIP pics

Plain props in scene

Props thrown in with base colors and bakes

Starting to add in the final painted textures.  Still experimenting with lighting and particle systems
